Steady-State Analysis of EV Charging Impact on Distribution Networks Considering Battery State of Charge Behavior

The aim of this thesis is to evaluate the impact of EV charging on electrical distribution networks under different charging scenarios and EV penetration levels through a combination of probabilistic charging demand modelling and steady-state power system analysis. Monte Carlo simulation is used to represent the stochastic behaviour of EV users and generate aggregated charging demand profiles, while the MATPOWER toolbox is employed to assess the performance of the IEEE 33-bus distribution network under multiple operating conditions. Furthermore, several mitigation strategies are investigated to evaluate their effectiveness in reducing voltage degradation, improving network performance, and supporting future EV integration.
